 SME Week to reach entrepreneurs throughout Europe The first ever European SME Week kicks off on 6 May. This major campaign covers activities related to small businesses in 34 countries, giving a helping hand to those already up and running and encouraging young people to choose entrepreneurship as a career. The campaign events, organised by national, regional and local SME organisations, promote entrepreneurship and offer support and networking opportunities for SMEs. The events include everything from company open days and funding tips to innovation, taxation and internationalisation conferences. The events will show European entrepreneurs how to benefit from the open market more efficiently and to boost business. The 23 million existing SMEs are key employers in Europe. To keep this trend going and to boost Europe’s competitiveness, the European Union invests in SMEs in different ways. SME Week is also a forum to promote the EU’s Small Business Act, which is tailored to cut down the costs of doing business and to make starting up easier. It also aims at giving small businesses a helping hand with current issues, such as the economic situation and the climate change. |

1. EDE 2008 Križevci recognized as the best overall organizer President of UMIS-SMEA, Mrs. Katarina Jagić officially marked the opening of the European Day of the Entrepreneur - EDE 2009 Croatia & Partners at the European Movement Center, Split on May 8th 2009. This year, UMIS-SMEA, Association for small and medium entrepreneurs marked the 6th anniversary EDE in Croatia. EDE was initiated in Barcelona, Spain in 1999 as a direct result of the Lisbon Strategy, marking its 10th anniversary this year.
In Croatia, UMIS-SMEA has included activities for youth (stimulate), public (inform), politicians (influence) and has inspired many people including entrepreneurs and institutions to continue the efforts towards creating job growth, stimulation of entrepreneurship and inclusion of youth in education programmes on entrepreneurship through innovation and creativity. The official opening of this important event was also marked by the presence of the European Commission Directorates General of Industry and Enterprise keynote speaker - Mr. Marko Čuravić, European economic and social committee, Mrs. Madi Sharma, President of the European Movement in Split, Mr. Ivo Grga, Students and Representatives from the programme UMIS Student Entrepreneur, Ms. Janja Trstenjak and Mr. Mario Kuna, Sportsman and Entrepreneur Željko Mavrović, and other important figures such as previous Mayor of Split, and Town Križevci with the Business Center Križevci. |

European Small Business Alliance visited Križevci  The European small business alliance visited Križevci on April 2nd2009 with its partner UMIS-SMEA and interviewed relevant local public and private institutions who work for the betterment of SMEs in the town.
The working meeting with ESBA and UMIS-SMEA was held in the Križevci Crafts Association with the attendance of the The Head of the Administrative offices for the economy and finances of the town Krizevci, Mr. Darko Masnec, Križevci Crafts Association, Mrs. Marija Škrlec, Privredna Banka d.d. "Ideje koje vrijede" moto je ovogodišnjeg 1. Europskog festivala kreativnosti poduzetnika koji se održao jučer u Areni Zagreb povodom 6. Europskog dana poduzetnika Hrvatska i partneri na temu „Novi Početci – Oslobodimo potencijale mladih za poduzetništvo“. Nakon prošlogodišnjeg uspješno organiziranog Europskog dana poduzetnika po prvi puta u Križevcima, Gradu je pripala čast da zaprimi priznanje Europske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti pred relevantnim institucijama za poduzetništvo i kreativnim i inovativnim poduzetnicima iz raznih dijelova Europe i Hrvatske. Priznanje je dodijelio savjetnik predsjednika i član znanstvenog odbora pri Europskoj akademiji znanosti i umjetnosti, Ulric Fayl von Hentaller gradonačelniku Branku Hrgu.
